What does the Guidance Counsellor Do?
The Guidance Counsellor helps the students with the process of making decisions. This is done through guidance classes, individual consultations and administration of ability, aptitude and interest tests.
Access to the Service
This service at Cabra Community College offers assistance to all students in the college.
Students may make individual appointments on a voluntary basis to discuss matters such as:
Careers information, Further Education Courses, Training courses, CAO Applications.
This service also helps students with the following; Study Skills; job seeking skills, work preparation skills, examination techniques, and motivation techniques.
This service also provides a confidential one –to – one counselling service to students who are coping with personal difficulties in their lives.
This service is supported by the CDVEC Psychological Service through the presence of a psychologist in the college one half day per week.
The service also liaises with out-of school agencies and services such as:
- Local Health and Social Services
- Youth and Community agencies
- Drugs Awareness groups
- School Attendance office
